How It's Made
At One Ocean Arts we hand carve all of our designs into linoleum blocks to make one of a kind prints. Each item is hand printed with non toxic ink that is safe for washing. We strive to provide some of the softest clothing for you and your loved ones. All of our items are either made from 100% cotton or a blend of organic and recycled materials.
How Are The Shirts Made?
We make our clothing and accessories using hand carved linoleum blocks. We spend hours designing and carving each block to create our one of a kind prints. Once the blocks image is carved, fabric ink is rolled onto the block evenly using a tool called a brayer. The block is then pressed onto the clothing and hung to dry for 1-3 days depending on humidity. We do this process for each and every shirt making them truly one of a kind.
What Is Block Printing?
Block printing (also known as linoleum printing) is a type of relief printing technique dating back to the 1800's. It's a subtractive processes, meaning you cut away or subtract the areas you do not wish to print. Today, most clothing items are deigned using screen printing, making our company truly unique. Because we hand print our designs, each and every garment comes out looking a little different which gives our brand a vintage look that we love so much!
What Are The Washing Instructions?
We print our clothing and accessories using fabric ink designed specifically to use on cotton, polyester, blends, linen, rayon and other synthetic fibers. Since we often use eco-friendly and organic fabrics we recommend washing in cold water and hanging to dry for best possible results. After your first wash you may notice a slight fading of the design, this is intentional to give your garment a vintage look.
